幸运的是，解决方案非常简单：

sudo gem uninstall mysql
sudo apt-get install libmysqlclient-dev -y
sudo gem install mysql 

注意：我收到尝试卸载mysql的错误消息，但这没关系，因为它不是首先安装的。在安装mysql gem时，出现类似错误的消息：No definition for next_result，但这不是错误。安装文档时会发生这种情况。它们只是说没有某些功能的文档而已。

您真的不需要那个宝石就能在Ruby中使用MySQL。Debian / Ubuntu中有一个软件包，已经有相同的代码已经编译和准备好了。只需键入sudo apt-get install libmysql-ruby。

在Ubuntu Hardy，8.04上，我可以使用apt-get安装：
